1.) Learn From My Trial & Error!

I LOVE this product. I love the smoove results, and I love not paying a salon employee a bale of cash to get up close and personal with my... um... self... only to then inflict pain! And I never have, which is why I had to figure this out on my own.

I reuse this product several times before chucking it and getting a fresh pot, but if the aesthetics of that bother you, it's still a bargain compared to a salon wax job!

So, in the interest of good Panty Content Karma, I'm gonna share my technique with y'all.

Wash up first... the area should be clean & dry. If this is the first time you've done any bikiniscaping, you might want to use a ballpoint pen to draw the edges, assuming you're leaving a garnish (heh). That way that you won't have any guesswork while you're in an awkward position juggling hot wax and spatulas and trying not to drip and attempting symmetricality.

Spread some newspapers on the area you're going to be standing or sitting. I like doing this in front of a floor mirror, but that's because I get EVERYthing... if you're doing a standard sides-only job, you probably don't need it.

Grab a book or magazine. The most challenging part of this process is resisting the urge to pull off the wax before it's hardened, and getting it all over yer fingers.

Nuke the wax. I heat it on high for 90 seconds, but it really depends on your microwave. The consistency is supposed to be like thick but runny honey when it's ready to use. The wax doesn't melt up evenly and will often have a deceptively hard crust on top, despite being molten lava underneath the crust, so watch out!

Gently stir it all up with your spatula, and don't get any on you... it may be very hot and it's no fun at all getting really liquidy hot wax on your skin! If it's too runny (read: hot), let it sit for a minute and then stir it some more. Repeat until it looks ready to spread.

Spread it on in long, semi-thick swatches with your wooden spatula. It seems to be easier to peel off this way.

Wait for it to cool and harden.

Wait.

No really... wait. I hate getting it all over my fingers - yech!

OK, now test it by tapping with your finger. If it's hard, hold the skin underneath taut with one hand while you semi-slowly peel with the other. You can pull it off fast, but I've found that if I yank it off it leaves strays.

Repeat for the spots between your original swatches of wax. You're going to leave some on your skin... don't sweat it.

OK, all done? Yay! Time to get the lil wax leftovers off. Gigi makes a product that removes wax, but frankly, it's only fancy, and extra greasy lotion. When I ran out, I tried using lotion and body butter and found that they worked just fine. You'll find that it will take a little fingernail attention to get some of it off, but it should not be difficult or require serous scratching yourself to get it off. If it is, you need more lotion. Think frosting on a cupcake.

Wipe off lotion with paper towels, clean under your nails before you wash lotion off your hands, wash the area, and voila! You're all smooth!

Aftercare is important if you're prone to getting ingrowns... there are several products out there that help with this, but anthing that is mild and antiseptic will do the trick, including witch-hazel based products that don't have much alcohol (stingy).

:)

2.) Easy home wax

can wax myself everywhere, but never attempted a brazilian wax. There was no way i was gonna get stuck with wax there if i couldn't remove it. But i took the plunge after reading a few reviews. Easy. Peasy. Someone recommended I use strips with it even though it's a stripless wax, great advice. So easy. I think it gets even more than 95% of the hair. And much less painless I found than even expensive salons I've been too. Great product. But you gotta have a lotta guts to attempt it. If that's you, then you can do it. Make sure you apply the pre-oil. It seems like it would be good for 2 uses. So a little over $10 a wax is a great price. Well, even less, b/c after 2 uses with this, you'll have enough of the prep/post creams for probably 2 more waxes with just buying the wax and not the kit.

I purchased this product with not many high expectations. I have used Nads for 5 years to waxme and my family's face, legs, and bikini area which much satisfaction of the product. Trying to be frugal, I thought I would do my own Brazilian, and with the help of my girlfriend, it came out AWESOME!! It wasn't nearly as painful as I thought it would be, and it got every hair! I even waxed my legs. I couldn't be happier with the results. I think I found my new permanent waxing product.

I have been using this product for the last 6 years religiously... and it has saved me tons in visits to the pros! I use it on my face, underarms, hoo ha... works like a charm every time!

The wax lasts forever, and my only advice is go for it with whatever you feel like waxing, but just don't try doing your rear! Funny to admit, but I nearly waxed my cheeks together and was frantically trying to undo the damage before my husband got home from work. I managed to escape a VERY embarrassing moment, but still, my general rule with this stuff is only wax what you can see and take it small sections at a time.

Oh- and trim your hair to 1/4 inch before waxing, anything longer hurts like a mofo.

Happy hoo ha beautifying!

After spendng hundreds of dollars over many years on salon waxing ($60 a pop every month), I decided to try at home waxing. Needless to say, I'm never going back to the salon!!! EVER! I tested this kit initially on my underarms...it took some getting used to because you don't need the muslin strips. After a few test runs, the hair was removed quite easily. I then decided to try the brazilian and was impressed by the ease and fairly painless process. Took about 98% of the hair away and honestly was less painful than the salon waxing! I am extremely happy with the results and would recommend this product for those who have experience waxing at a salon (so you have an idea of how and where thy apply the wax). Make sure to follow all the steps (pre hon cream, oil, wax off and slo-gro).

Okay, this hurts. Really badly if you're using it on your bikini area. On the legs and underarms it's totally gentle. Drawback, it's messy and the wax off cream doesn't really take it off, you still have to scratch relentlessly at your skin to get up any pieces that were too thin to pull off. It does a great job pulling out the hair though. It only left behind my baby blonde hairs, which every wax I've ever used does.

20.) my gigi experience
Reviewed by: tlh NJ, United States
Rating:
I bought this product based on another review and was pleasantly suprised. I have used other "easy to use" microwavable waxes with a lot of disappointing results, most of the time giving up halfway through because they were impossibly sticky, pulled away without removing the hair (???) but leaving me sticky and lint-covered, or otherwise left me convinced that they were made out of pine sap. This product was not entirely simple to use, but I will use it again.

First, I was very cautious about how long I heated it because of the other reviews. I had to heat mine for almost two minutes before it was the right consistency, so you may in fact have to do the same - just keep checking that it doesn't get too hot. The wax itself is bright green so it is easy to spot, however it is difficult to get an edge of it up so that you can get a good even yank. Next time I will use strips. This will probably also help eliminate having to catch just the right moment for pulling it off - too soon and it's all over your fingers, too late and you may have to knock it off with a hammer - when it's the right time it's like you have old chewing gum well...wherever you're using it, nonetheless it works great. I have no doubt that this product used with some muslin strips for easy removal will be unbeatable, especially for novice waxers. Also, the accessories that come with the kit are great! I have sensitive skin, but experienced no irritation from the two products that are for use prior to actually waxing, nor to the wax itself, nor to the "wax-off" lotion for use after waxing (which btw smells lovely).

My only pet peeve with this product is that it made me wish I had a microwave in my bathroom because I found myself running to the kitchen every few minutes to reheat the wax. Otherwise, I wish it came with a larger jar of wax, as the petite container makes stirring it a little tricky. In any case, I think this is a good product. I am pleasantly suprised as well as satisfied, and I feel comfortable with it and am excited to use it again.

21.) Works great!

The wax works really really well, better than any wax I've used before. You don't use paper strips, however, so the only issue is when you get to a hair line, it is tough to get a grasp on the wax to take it off. Maybe that just takes practice.

22.) Great for travel

This is the first wax removal product I have used on my own. It was incredibly easy. I bought it because I have been thinking about doing my own wax removal on my legs and didn't want to purchase a warmer and wax, if I thought it was too difficult. There was very very little pain, I tweezed a few spots afterwards, and that was excruciating. The down side was the wax would get stiff quickly. It took a little bit to get the right consistancy so that it would spread easily - but hey its my first time. I did decide that this is an excellent choice for touch ups while traveling without having to take the warmer and wax. I will definitly stick with this line of products and will purchase another microwave kit set.

I have been a faithful Brazillian salon waxer for three years now. I think I have gotten to the point where my hair is as fine as it's going to be. I consider myself having a pretty good pain threshold, and I've seen three different waxers take care of me. Regardless, I had some serious issues doing this at home. I think it may be my technique and the amount of wax I put on, which I am sure is an art form in and of itself. The normal 'bikini' area went off without a hitch. But the more 'centered' I got, the more painful it became. Sometimes areas of the wax would be harder and ready to pull off, but then when I got halfway through my 'pull', the whold darn thing split in half like chewing gum. I am hoping it's my technique, because I don't think I can throw down $80 every four months. Yes, I did have to play with my microwave and nuke this for like 3 mintues initially, ran back to the kitchen to finish the job, and then kept stirring. I definitely recommend exfoliating daily and using a finishing product like PFB afterwards (TOTALLY worth the $20--a bottle lasts 6 months) to prevent ingrown hairs. I fear I may have broken off a few hairs with this latest technique. But for $14 a pop? I think this may be worth the trial, error and pain.

24.) Great alternative to the salon
Reviewed by: Sydney Houston, TX / Austin, TX
Rating:
For my first at-home waxing experience I was very skeptical purchasing this product, but I was pleasantly surprised. I am very pleased with the results I got, and the wax was easy to use once I got the hang of it. Like other people have said, you have to figure out just the right time to pull it off, but it doesn't take that long to figure out. I think that my results are as good (if not better) as they are at the salon, and it's a great alternative to spending $70+ a month.

The only negatives -- I actually did take my microwave into the bathroom (hah) because I had to keep reheating the wax. This may have been because my technique was perhaps not as efficient as it ideally could have been... but practice makes perfect. Also, I'm not sure that I would recommend this product to someone who has never had any sort of waxing done at all, whether at a salon or at home. I've been getting brazilians at a salon regularly for a while, and was simply trying this product in an attempt to be frugal. However, if you're a total novice, I would recommend letting the pros handle it at least a couple of times. You'll get an idea of how the whole process goes, and your hair will have a chance to thin out A LOT. Just a thought. But overall, a great product, and highly recommended!

25.) Works great.

This was my first hot wax experience. I've used suger wax and a few others. All in all not bad. It heats in the microwave and getting it too melt properly was the only draw back. It heats from the bottom so the boiling lava wax is trapped under a wax plug on top but once you get past it, the application and results are everything you want them to be. I will buy again.

26.) Messy but effective
Reviewed by: Kandace Rochester, MN USA
Rating:
As a first time waxer, I was a little nervous about getting started. It is pretty messy, and not a little painful, but is mainly effective. I wasn't able to remove all the hair - but I'm guessing that had more to do with inexperience on my part than any defect in the product. I'm working up the confidence to try again ; ).

27.) It can work...
Reviewed by: AD2
Rating:
Through trial and error, this product CAN work pretty well, with the following observations:

1. Do strip by strip, not an entire area at a time.
2. Test wax on back of hand to be sure it's not too hot (assuming you can tell with your eyes that it's not liquid lava).
3. Don't use the oil provided.
4. Needs 2 people! One to pull off wax (quickly!), and one to pull skin TIGHT!
5. Expect some straggler hairs, to be tweezed.
6. A wooden chopstick works well to stir wax with as you're in process of heating it.
7. Do not expect this to be fast, easy, or glamorous. : )

With all that said, it's a pain, but it's cheaper than a salon, it CAN work pretty well, and for me at least, it's way more tolerable to have a husband or friend cause tears to spring from your eyes than a stranger.

30.) PAINFUL, Messy and OILY!
Reviewed by: BMK58 San Diego, CA. United States
Rating:
The "Pre-Epilation Oil" sounded like a good idea, but may have been to root of the evil. The instructions were after the wax cools and hardens to "pull skin taut" before yanking off. Pull skin oily skin taut? Are you kidding me???!!!! IMPOSSIBLE!

The application was also very messy. The wax dripped and dropped to the floor. It also cooled w-a-y too fast - think "frozen taffy" - resulting in it not budging to be removed. Now since I can't throw my body in the microwave for reheating, I had to use the blower dryer (high heat, low air) to soften it for removal.

Removal was next to impossible - and VERY PAINFUL! This was probably due to the fact that the oil made it impossible to pull the skin taut and yank. And due to the oil, the wax did not stick to many hairs - it only removed about 50% of the hair so I will still have to shave tonight.

I may try it again - (but like childbirth, it'll be after the pain subsides and I forget) - but I definitely will NOT use the oil, but may instead go buy the Pre-epilation Dusting Powder. If you use the oil in this kit - go very lightly on it and then gently wipe it off so barely any oily residue remains - or all your hairs will too!

31.) Wasn't For Me

My microwave couldn't get it warm enough so by the time it was "warm" I had to wait a bit for it to cool down so it wouldn't burn my skin. However, if you have a good microwave and can stand the pain of pulling it off, it works pretty dang good.

OK, I will freely admit that when I read the other reviews, I thought it can't be as painful as they make it sound. I also know I have a high pain threshold so I wasn't too worried about it. So I got myself a kit and decided to try it. Can't be too bad when so many people have tried, right? Wrong! It was painful!! Think tears in your eyes painful. I am sure its a great product if you can withstand the pain and discomfort. To me its not worth it.
I decided I am probably going to use the rest of the wax for my legs and arms and leave the bikini area for the experts in a salon.

33.) I'm scared!

I agree with another reviewer. I microwaved this product as per the instructions, but noticed that the top layer was still extremely hard...as if it was not heated at all. Therefore I went on to heating it for >1 min, by which point was still very hard at the top. I was trying to poke through the top layer to see if I can break it. And then the burning hot wax in the middle exploded onto my hand and luckily not to my face. I suffered from serious burns on my fingers (still have the scars) and my palm was hurting like crazy for 2 days. If you buy this, be really really careful. Of course, I did not even get to try it out since I'm scared to use it again. I'm going to try the warmer with another Gigi hard wax that I bought...see if that's better.

It is packaged very nicely all the products are clearly labeled, the smell is nice BUT this hurt like the dickens!! There is a handle on the kit I bought for when it comes out of the microwave which I founf very helpful, unfortunately timing hot/too hot time frame can depend on if this will work for you. I had to microwave it twice and just deal with the heat. It does create a little bit of a mess unless you have great aim and a great deal of patience. If you are a professional this is a great product to use,but as a novice I'll stick to the shop.
