1.) Work well!

I've been using these since I was young, b/c I have issues with ear wax build up to the point where I cannot hear, get dizzy, and migrain like headaches. These always work, although I do have to use more than one usually b/c its so bad.
I am reviewing after reading the previous 1 star review. I can tell the difference between the wax from the candle and the wax fromm my ear after looking inside. Both color, and smell are different. (yuck)
I have tried drops, and all the other dr. recommended ways to get rid of buildup and they have in fact only made it worse for me. The only thing that works better than these is a visit to the ENT who takes it out with a little hook. And b/c I have no insurance, this is our choice.

Anyway, Definetly use with someone helping you, and follow the directions. We lie with my head in my husbands lap, and he holds the candle. It does work, and the proof is in the face that after I canhear again.

Good luck!

This product was fantastic!!!! This was the first time I candled my ears after recommendation from a certified ear candler for my TMJ and years of sinusitis.

Anyone who says ear candling doesn't work is doing it incorrectly. The candle needs to be inserted firmly into the ear by gently turning it until there is a good seal. You should also make sure that smoke is coming out of the bottom of the candle before insertion, that's how you know there is a good chimney effect happening. We used 5 candles in my right ear and 4 in the left-it pulled years of infection from both ears (yellow powdery substance) and some wax. My ears and sinuses feel fantastic now!!!!

4.) Ear Coning Does Work
Reviewed by: God Bless America Gilbert, AZ
Rating:
Those of you saying that ear coning is a "hoax" are completely wrong. I have been using ear cones for years and they indeed do work. Some of you say the wax in the cone after is "the wax from the cone itself". Ridiculous. There is a very simple way to prove my point. First take a q tip or similar and draw some ear wax out of your ear canal. Smell it then smell the ear cone before lighting it. Ear wax smells very different from the bees wax or parafin wax used in ear cones. There is no comparison to the smell. Bees wax or parafin have a relatively clean smell to them. Ear wax has a much more pungent smell due to the impurities in it. Then do an ear cone on yourself. Push the wax out collected at the bottom of the ear cone and squash it with your fingers and smell it. It smells exactly like the pungent smelling ear wax because it is. If ear coning is done properly, you will have a usually large amount of ear wax collected with a white chalky substance covering it. Trust me, this is not melted bees wax or similar. Also after you do several ear conings your ear feels better and less clogged. You can feel the difference and it is not imagined.

The proper way to ear cone is first get the right ear cone design. The only ones that work well are in a true cone shape, small at the bottom tapering to larger hole at the top. I find the ones that are straight up and down from bottom to top don't work well if at all. Also, do not get cones with thick layers of wax on the outside. This makes the cone burn too slow and to get the vacuum action needed to draw the wax, the cone has to burn somewhat fast. Also, get a long narrow stick that will fit in the bottom of the cone to push out the debris. The best thing to do is stop half way through one cone, put it out and push out the debris and re light it and continue. When the debris clogs it up, no more wax will come in. You will also know when it is working by hearing lots of hissing and popping in your ear when the cone is in and lit. This is the vacuum working and drawing out the wax. If you don't hear the hissing, you either need to move it around deeper in your ear until you do, or don't have any wax to draw out. Keep moving around the small end of the cone that is in your ear until you hear that hiss. You will know. You also have to keep a good seal on the cone in your ear to create the vacuum so don't loosely put the cone in your ear. Seal it in there and move the tip around while the top is lit. Trust me, most people will start hearing that hiss. You can also feel the weight of the debris moving out of your ear. It is such a relieving experience and you feel so much better if you had a clogged ear like I get.

One warning though. Always have a spotter and have a paper plate with a hole cut in it for the cone to go through to catch any potential ash or embers from the cone when in use. Also, don't go crazy and overuse cones too many per day like I did. When I saw it working so well and how much wax kept coming out and how much better I felt, I wanted to keep doing it more and more one after the other. Don't do that. I would limit to two cones a day because if you do it too much, the warm smoke can begin to irritate your ear and even cause minor burning. Also, make sure after coning that you use water or hydrogen peroxide with a ear flushing syringe to wash out your ear. Some debris and smoke debris will remain in there and you need to get it out.

Anyway, I can understand some of the skeptics because it does seem unbelievable that warm smoke and a vacuum could draw wax debris from an ear but again, trust me it works and I don't own a coning company. It will get into parts of your ear to clean the wax and impurities that even a doctor and their irrigation tools cannot get to.

5.) The real story of success

Fantastic product! Although I use the candles by Wally's Naturals. I love how the smoke from the candle helps to loosen the wax so that the ear can excrete it naturally during the candling and after. Plus it is very relaxing. The wax at the bottom is only from the paraffin in the candle and the loosened wax will of course help clear your hearing tremendously and help your body to excrete the wax naturally through the ears! No vacuum, just a little steam/heat from the candle smoke. Helped tremendously to loosen my ear wax! For those of you that have only used one and had no success and questioned the wax at the bottom. The wax is from the candle and maybe a little from your ear, but not much right then and there. Also, it can take quite a few candles sometimes before you get the desired affect. [...]

When it came in the mail , very well packaged, double boxes and bubble plastic, I thought I've bought the wrong thing...
But then I've read some reviews and noticed it was the right one!
I have cut the little small tip, made a hole in a paper plate, lighted and put in the canal ear making sure it was very tight, turning around a little to "sit" better in my ear...
I've let it burn at least 2/3 of the candle and I could hear the wax moving inside...
When I cut the candle to see the results I was very impressed!!!WOW!!!!
Unbelievable!!!
We repeated the same thing with my husband, and two daughters, 8 and 10 and we loved it!!!
My 8 year old was at the pool that day, and even some drops of water came out, she said she could hear better, after!
Maybe the bad reviews were from people that didn't do it right...
I am going to keep buying those for sure!!!

I have used ear candles several times before, even talked my husband into trying them. I bought them through amazon this time and used them. My husband was skeptical (as usual) so I did some research. I found a lot of negative things, but I also saw people claiming the candles did things that are impossible. They do not clear your sinuses. They do not clean the brain. These are ludicrous claims. What they do do are relax you. I am undecided if I believe the residue left in the candles are ear waste or not. This time it did not smell like ear wax. Of course they can be dangerous, use your brain. Ears are delicate, and you are sticking something on fire into them. I believe if you use them occasionally there is no harm as long as they are used properly. I was amazed to find out the following information:
http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/candling.html
They are praised in Europe, illegal in Canada. I will probabaly continue to use them every couple years or so. Remember that frequent use can dry out and cause harm to your ear. Good luck. Be safe.

20.) Cheaper solution EXISTS...for me at least
Reviewed by: Marcus L. Weiss San Francisco, CA United States

After suffering for years...I found a 50 cent solution--please read on before you buy these candles.

I went to the E.R. after having weeks of deteriorating hearing...they made it worse. I used the carbamide peroxide drops costing at least $12/ounce. It worked sometimes but not when it was really bad--AND NEVER CLEARED CANNAL...JUST OPENED IT ENOUGH TO WHERE HEARING LOSS WASN'T AS DRAMATIC.

I would hope that those of you who are considering using ear candels would google a little and see what the world says. World says....this stuff is bunk.

BUT, I have known people like the reviewers here who claim to have found relief...and who can tell them they haven't? Not me.

BOTTOM LINE. I was aware of the possiblity of using hydrogen peroxide but thought it a weak remedy and not something, someone suffering acutely such as myself, should take seriously. I mean, it was water based (3% hydrogen peroxide, 97% water) and I was convinced that water was what was causing my ear wax overproduction to begin with!

After the $12/ounce stuff that sometimes worked--but slowly and painfully...
After trying the $16 sea water dispenser you can find nowadays next to the carbomide peroxide(what a joke).
After the E.R. where they used this cruddy blue stuff and then out of desperation tried a metal instrument (I was there for 5 hours--to negative avail...)
After just living with it for years until my hearing was literally getting worse day by day...I mean, it was bad.

Frickin' hydrogen peroxide I purchased for $1 for 2 sixteen ounce bottles. I still cannot believe it. The stuff was a miracle. I had to spend a lot of time but each second I could hear and feel it working and removing tons...tons of crud. I can't believe how much I had in my ear cannals. I havn't had clear ears in years.

Turn your head on its side and let the stuff bubble away for at least five minutes. I use about a Ml. (mililiter) each time. I use a clear little plunger with a line indicating 1 ml. Work your jaw, smoosh the stuff around by lightly pressing up on the lower part of your outer ear a bit. Have tissue and paper towels at the ready as gross stuff will be floating to the surface (your outer ears). Wipe away but again, keep head tilted for at least five minutes each time. Then, turn your head upright, let it all drain out and poor another dose in. I know what they say about putting things in your ear but I definetly work my ear canal a bit with some tissue to get all of the solution out.

I haven't had clear ears for years...thought I might never. I tried this on a whim and its changed my life...(dramatic, I know...but I was going deaf.)
Maybe it's just my body chemistry which produces ear was of such a chemical nature that I react so well with hydrogen peroxide...don't know.
But if you suffer with this--for god's sake--try it!

24.) Don't WASTE your MONEY -- OR -- DAMAGE YOUR EARS!!!
Reviewed by: I love music!
Rating:
Not only do these NOT work -- but when considering RISK vs. REWARD -- even IF they worked... it's just not worth it!!

I've used similar "ear candles" once before -- and was suckered in to the notion that they actually worked, after cutting them open to see the "end result"... which I was led to believe was MY (ear) wax. Turns out, what it really was, was nothing more than the CANDLE's WAX, which THANKFULLY, had Not Entered My Ear (which can cause severe burns & permanent DAMAGE, even HOLES IN YOUR EAR DRUM).

Anyway - so this time around, when my seasonal allergies started acting up again & I could feel (and hear) the excess fluid building up in my ears --- I figured I'd give them another go. After searching CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, etc. etc. & coming up empty handed -- I finally turned to the Internet... where they were in great supply. (Now I know why NO RESPECTABLE PLACE OF BUSINESS WILL SELL THESE)

While waiting for them to arrive, I wanted to brush up on the "instructions" since it'd been a while since I last used them (also the only other time). It's then that I came across (though Google) COUNTLESS MEDICAL PAGES & REVIEWS, WARNING AGAINST THESE "CANDLES" - and giving Countless HORROR STORIES OF "CANDLING" GONE WRONG... and that when tested - EVERY BIT OF WAX OR "DEBRIS" FOUND INSIDE A USED "CANDLE" --- WAS FROM THE CANDLE ITSELF -- NOT, I REPEAT, NOT, FROM THE USER'S EAR.

Now - obviously I heeded these warnings... but still, I'm a skeptical person. And from what I could remember about my 1st time, was that 1 "Candle" had a whole lot of "wax" in it at the end, and the other barely had any (1 from each ear). So I thought MAYBE it was just the Medical Community trying to get rid of "ear drop competition" by bad-mouthing the "ear candles"..... after all, no matter what the subject is: Religion, Medical, Scientific -- there are ALWAYS studies supporting either side of a claim. (just look at the EGG: Egg whites Vs. Egg yolks, bad, then good, then bad, then good -- and they still don't know)

So - CAUTIOUSLY & with "supervision" (never attempt alone... hell, never attempt AT ALL) I put 1 candle in my right ear - burned it accordingly.... Nothing. No Ear-Wax... the tube was completely HOLLOW at the end... aside from a small "runner" of BeesWax which had dripped down toward my ear canal. So, thinking I'd not "sealed it around me ear canal properly" -- tried the Left ear... this time, making sure it was good & tightly sealed. I did notice a great addition to the "hissing" noises, and what FEELS & SOUNDS LIKE "SUCTION"... but -- not only was there NO Ear Wax at the end.... there wasn't even any BeesWax in the tube on this one.... it was COMPLETELY HOLLOW. It didn't suck ANYTHING out... and luckily, didn't let anything drip down in either.

It seems, the reason my 1st experience had the result that it did -- was due to the Parafin Wax that was used to make it.... and that these candles, while they didn't produce the same result as the others -- (1) still presented a danger to my ear canal ========= and worst of all ======= that's all it did.

These come with all sorts of warnings (seen above & on the packaging itself) that read basically: You're an idiot for using this... and if you hurt yourself, we're not liable - this is a "home remedy" only... blah blah blah.

I don't know about you guys, but when I think of "Home Remedies" -- I think of "Chicken Noodle soup"; and all the other foods, plants, etc. - used for soothing, or "healing" purposes. NONE OF THOSE HOWEVER -- WILL SEVERLY INJURE (or even slightly injure) THE USER - IF NOT TAKEN TO EXACT SPECIFICATIONS!!!!

Steer clear of this hocus pocus - mumbo jumbo... that some Douche thought of when he/she had left over Beeswax, which was unsuitable for making into Honey or whatever! IT DOES NOT WORK - READ THE REVIEWS, WARNINGS, & "TESTIMONIALS" (google search on "ear candles") & CAN ONLY DO YOU HARM.

Do yourself a favor - if something's wrong with your ears - take them to a DOCTOR (or up to a CVS / Walgreens / etc. -- and get some OTC Drops if you can't afford a Doctor or Prescription Drops!)

26.) I can't believe this...
Reviewed by: Hillary
Rating:
I personally have to question why someone would put a lit waxy candle into her 4-year-old's ear (in response to a comment on another's review). It's amazing how completely backwards and primitive our society can be in an attempt to find a quick fix that avoids those demonic doctors, right? People will believe what they want to believe, and unfortunately, I can't change anyone's stance on that. But I can certainly support your comment.
To all of you who love ear candling, please try this one experiment for me: burn one in your ear, and then burn one outside your ear. Open it up, and look at all of the "ear" wax you find in both. It will be identical if you used the same brand of ear candles. If you aren't open-minded enough to try that, then I suppose that would explain why you would be ear candling to begin with.
I have yet to see any possible way or even a logical explanation as to how a lit candle can create a "vacuum". Again, try this type of experiment outside your ear and see if you get any form of result. The thing is, it really can't work, and the explanation for how these candles are supposed to work is really just another example as to how people really will believe anything without thinking for themselves. Please, do some research on your own if you don't believe anyone else (it's part of being responsible for your own health)... which brings me to another point. Another commenter here said that research can be found on both sides of any argument... and that leads me to challenge anyone to find just one peer-reviewed double-blind study that supports this practice. There aren't any. There are, however, SEVERAL studies proving the latter. It is very easily proved that a candle cannot create "negative pressure"... you can even try it yourself without having to endanger your poor ear.
Agreeing with the (sadly) 1 other reviewer who sees these candles for what they really are, they can do nothing but harm. Possibly, they could be relaxing, but nothing more. There most definitely is a placebo effect, which to some might be like finding out there is no Easter Bunny. Again, if you don't believe me, look it up absolutely anywhere and see for yourself.
Unfortunately, probably for many of you with this "chronic" earwax buildup issue, the simple explanation is that you simply have not been helping it. Throw some wax-softening drops in your ear for a while each day and then flush it out (and trust me, just because they're FDA approved does not mean that they are "unnatural" or "unsafe" or untrustworthy for that matter.) There is a reason that no licensed physician will encourage you to light a fire near your ear canal. There is a reason they are not FDA approved, and interestingly, are illegal if their packages claim any medical benefit.
Unless of course, anything that has to do with everything involving doctors, science or the government is a giant conspiracy and can't be trusted. No one is looking out for your health. Please continue lighting fires near your baby girl.
